Judith Jones Obituary

Judith Marie Jones was born October 13, 1951, the fourth child born to Clarence Lee and Willmetta Jones in Des Moines, Iowa.  She was preceded in death by her father Clarence, and sister Peggy.

Judi with an “I”, not a “Y”, as she reminded everyone, attended Lincoln High school until her senior year when she attended Des Moines Tech High School, graduating in 1969.  After high school, Judi worked at the Des Moines Register and Tribune and remained there until moving to Los Angeles in 1970.

Judi began modeling for an LA Boutique and posed in clothing ads.  In 1975, she moved from LA to Colorado after her first marriage ended and in 1979, married John Robertson.

Judi was a paraprofessional with Denver Public schools from the early 1980’s and remained involved with the schools until the early 1990’s.

One of Judi’s favorite things to do was spend time with her grandkids.  You could always find her on the floor with toys, reading books and doing crafts with them.  She loved her scratch tickets and decorating for the holidays.  If she started off saying, “I went and got a couple of scratch tickets the other day,” that meant she won something.

Mom loved the color blue.  We get our love of spicy food from her, especially Mexican food- “The type to make your lip sweat good”.  Her favorite shows to watch were Days of Our Lives, Another World, Court TV, Martin, and The Wayans Bros.  Her favorite movies were Road House, Cool Hand Luke, anything with Steven Segal, Pootie Tang (she talked about that nonstop in laughter), and Elvis Presley movies.  If there was an Elvis marathon on, she was dedicated to watch them all.  Her favorite song was Luther Vandross-Here and Now.  Her favorite group was Earth Wind and Fire, and her favorite genres were Blues, Jazz.

Mom had a “Good Morning” song and dance she would sing to get us up in the morning as kids that til this day has been imprinted into our brains.

Mom was always the first person to leave a message for your birthday.  She would call on the exact time you were born and sing her song.  Every time she would call to chat, she always asked how each person of the household was doing.

Judi leaves to cherish her memory four children- Walter Sykes, John Robertson (Charmaine), Willmetta Owens (Larry), and Julia Lindsey (Jerome).

Grandma’s babies include Jayla Lindsey (18), Walter Sykes III (18), Jaden Robertson (18), Jordan Owens (18), Jazlyn Lindsey (17), Darius Owens (14), Lamar Sykes (14), Damarcus Owens (12)
